VisionQuest: Showrunner Terry Matalas Reveals Kevin Feige’s Only Requirement for the Series

VisionQuest had a single creative requirement: bring Vision together with his son, Tommy Maximoff.

Terry Matalas said Kevin Feige’s main directive for VisionQuest was that Vision meet his son, Tommy Maximoff. Beyond that one point, the showrunner said his team had wide latitude to develop the series’ story.

Matalas made the comments in an interview with Polygon on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Asked about Feige’s involvement in the production, the showrunner said both the Marvel Studios president and Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, remained accessible throughout development.

“There’s always a direct line of communication with Kevin and [Marvel’s head of television] Brad Winderbaum. They’re a text away. But for the most part, we had a lot of creative freedom to tell Vision’s story the way we wanted to. There were no borders we needed to be mindful of.”

Matalas then revealed the direction Feige gave him when the two discussed the series.

“Kevin was very receptive to this crazy idea from the beginning. He called me and said that it’s the story of Vision, he’s going to meet his son, and he’s like, ‘The rest is up to you.’”

The son Matalas referred to is Tommy Maximoff. Ruaridh Mollica plays an adult version of the character in VisionQuest. The series’ first trailer has already confirmed Tommy as part of the story, after Agatha All Along established that his brother, Billy Maximoff, had returned in a new body.

The series also brings back Paul Bettany as Vision, specifically the White Vision version introduced in WandaVision. James Spader returns as Ultron, while other AIs connected to the MCU, including J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., and E.D.I.T.H., are also part of the series.

Marvel officially describes VisionQuest as the final chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024.

Matalas serves as showrunner. Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, James D’Arcy, Orla Brady, and Emily Hampshire are also in the cast.

VisionQuest premieres Oct. 14, 2026, exclusively on Disney+.
